The interplay of the two is intuitive and tends to be lyrical, unhurried and melodic. Both listen deeply to every suggestive gesture of the other, selflessly feeding the instant, composed music. Marsh is a master colorist and can charge even the most spare and contemplative melody with light yet intense touches. Lemish is a gifted storyteller as his “Heartland” shows, folding the nuanced drama with careful and patient care.

Noam Lemish & George Marsh In Their Own Words

I don’t think of our music as jazz or classical music or anything else, I think of it as music that comes from the heart. No pomp, no games, no fireworks and technique for their own sake, rather an attempt to express ourselves authentically in any given moment. Whether we’re improvising completely or not, both George and I think listening to one another and to the demands of the music is the highest priority. We’re also both dedicated to lyricism, to beautiful melodies. Indeed, I feel as though this project is a complete partnership. The entire process has been about cooperation and connecting with one another every step of the way.

The duo format allows for melodic drumming. The ‘inner drummer’ is active in both of us at the same time and our rhythmic approach matches up very precisely. This opens things up for stretching and manipulating the phrasing. And Noam can be totally free with his harmonic direction when he is in charge of the bass end of things. In some ways we have very different backgrounds and approaches to playing and in other ways we are very much the same. This makes for interesting music.
